Six French directors, six vignettes about love, prostitution and building works. Chabrol, Rohmer and Godard are the big guns here, with Rohmer coming up trumps with a Hitchcockian comedy about a mild-mannered sales clerk who thinks he’s killed a vagabond with his umbrella. Chabrol and Godard both contribute mean-spirited segments, while the other amour-flavoured entries are more curiosity value than compelling. |
