Cert 12

Film **** Extras ****

“This is the first time I've played a normal guy,” declares R-Pattz in a decent Making Of. He still looks like a vampire though… But Pattinson’s Twilight pallor fits snugly with brooding lost-boy Tyler, a uni student with daddy issues in pre-9/11 NYC.

The angsty heartthrob emerges with garlands here, as does Emilie De Ravin as Tyler’s damaged new girlfriend – proving there’s more to her than Lost fright wigs. Meanwhile, Pierce Brosnan brings it as his smug father and HBO vet Allen Coulter navigates a nuanced, truthful course through life’s grievances in his love story-cum-familial tragedy. The closing ploy may be shameless, but still leaves a haunting impression.
